Callous on my nose after rhinoplasty

Question:
I have developed what seems like a small callous on my nose since my nose job. Will this resolve or can it be treated in some way?

Answer:
It depends on the nature of the callous. An exam would be necessary to provide you with the best advice. Thank you for the question.

When is it appropriate to use a graft to fix a bulbous tip?

Question:
I was watching a surgical video where a graft was used to fix a bulbous tip. Is this always the case? I would have thought that you’re trying to slim down a bulbous tip and that the graft would be counter to that.

Answer:
Individual patient factors and anatomy determine the specific needs of a patient. Refining a bulbous tip can be performed by removing excess tissue, reconstructing the tip with sutures, using grafts, or any combination of the above three. Based on the thickness of the skin, the projection of the nose, and the shape of the tip, the decision whether or not to use a graft is made.

Can a filler be considered as a temporary solution to an indentation in the nose?

Filed under: Fillers,Revision Rhinoplasty — Dr. Paul Nassif @ 2:16 pm

Question:
I have an indentation above my nasal tip that resulted from my rhinoplasty surgery. I know I have to wait a year before considering revision but in the meantime can I use a filler to fix it until the year is up?

Answer:
You can use filler in the nose to fill an indentation. I typically do not use filler in the nose, as I have seen many complications arise.  These complications may include asymmetry, infection and rejection. Thank you for the question.

Will Rhinoplasty Scar Tissue affect my Revision Rhinoplasty?

Filed under: Revision Rhinoplasty — Dr. Paul Nassif @ 5:29 pm

Question:
I have chosen to undergo a nose job for the second time in ten years. Does the scar tissue from the first nose job affect the second procedure?

Answer:
The scar tissue present from your previous rhinoplasty (nose job) will make a revision rhinoplasty a bit more challenging. The more revisions you have performed, the more scar tissue will be present. As a result, each surgery will be more complicated. When performed properly by a revision rhinoplasty specialist, revision rhinoplasty surgery can yield excellent results. I have a great deal of experience performing revision rhinoplasty surgery and would be happy to answer any additional questions you have regarding the procedure. Please feel free to e-mail Lisa, my Patient Care Coordinator, at ana@spaldingplasticsurgery.com and send any photos if you wish.

Thank you and best of luck to you!

If I’ve already had a nose job, should I fix nostrils that don’t seem symmetrical?

Filed under: Revision Rhinoplasty — Dr. Paul Nassif @ 10:37 am

Question:
I had a nose job a couple of years ago and I am satisfied with the shape; however, the nostrils do not seem symmetrical. Should I have this corrected or just forget about it?

Answer:
This is really a personal preference.  If it is something that is bothering you, it would do no harm to have the issue corrected.  If you wish, you may send any photographs to Lisa, my Patient Care Coordinator, at ana@spaldingplasticsurgery.com and I would be happy to evaluate them for you and give you my opinion.  Thank you very much for the question.

I had rhinoplasty several months ago, and now it is up turned so much you can see inside my nostrils, is it repairable?

Filed under: Revision Rhinoplasty,Upturned Nostrils — Dr. Paul Nassif @ 2:14 pm

Question:
I need to have my nose fixed. I had rhinoplasty several months ago. What a disaster! Now I have a "pig" nose.  It is up turned so much you can see inside my nostrils. I cannot believe this happened. I am so depressed about it. Please, please tell me that this is repairable. Is recovery from revision rhinoplasty about the same as the original surgery?

Answer:
This is definitely something that may be repaired. When performed properly by a highly skilled revision rhinoplasty surgeon, revision rhinoplasty may yield excellent results.  The recovery from revision rhinoplasty will not be much different than the recovery from the primary rhinoplasty. However, the swelling may last longer following the revision rhinoplasty. The final result may not be evident for 18 to 24 months following your surgery. I hope this helps answer your question. Thank you and best of luck to you.

My nose has not aged well since Rhinoplasty ten years ago

Filed under: Revision Rhinoplasty — Dr. Paul Nassif @ 12:41 pm

Question:
I had rhinoplasty about ten years ago.  My nose does not seem to have aged well and I do not know if it is the previous nose job or just aging.  The tip of my nose over hangs more than it used to.  I would like the nose shortened just a bit and the tip brought up.  Can the nose be shortened without leaving a scar?

Answer:
The tip of the nose may droop with age.  This may also happen as a result of inadequate support from a prior rhinoplasty. For shortening your nose and bringing the tip up, your surgery would likely be open which requires making an incision under the columella.  However, when performed properly by a highly skilled surgeon, the scar that results from the columellar incision will be minimally visible and heal very nicely. Please feel free to send photographs to my office and I would be happy to evaluate them for you. You may send them to Lisa, my Patient Care Coordinator, at ana@spaldingplasticsurgery.com. Thank you very much for the question and best of luck to you.

Repair to previous rhinoplasty that left nose too short

Filed under: Revision Rhinoplasty — Dr. Paul Nassif @ 10:25 am

Question:
I am Asian and had a nose job that left my nose way too short. I would like rhinoplasty to repair it. I had a nose job for a deviated septum when I was younger. Would the previous nose job affect getting a new nose job?

Answer:
Anytime a revision rhinoplasty is performed there will be scar tissue present from the prior procedure.  The more revisions that are performed, the more scar tissue that will be present, and the more difficult the procedure. When performed by a revision rhinoplasty specialist, the revision to increase the projection of the nose is obtainable and may yield excellent results.  However, to give you the most accurate advice, I would need to know what you had performed in your last procedure and I would need to see photographs or examine you in person.

If you wish, you may send any photographs to Lisa my Patient Care Coordinator at ana@spaldingplasticsurgery.com and I would be happy to evaluate them for you. In addition, please visit my website at www.rhinoplastyspecialist.com where you will find photographs of ethnic rhinoplasty procedures I have performed. Thank you very much for the question.
