Question:
I’ve heard the terms open and closed rhinoplasty tossed around. Can you explain the differences between the two procedures?
Answer:
A closed rhinoplasty is an approach taken when a moderate amount of work needs to be performed. All of the incisions are made inside the nose. An open rhinoplasty allows me to get a better view of the inside of the nose, and we perform this when more involved work is necessary. There are certain things that can be performed during an open rhinoplasty that cannot be performed during a closed rhinoplasty. A small incision is made under the columella during an open rhinoplasty, which allows me to lift the nasal skin and obtain a better view in comparison to a closed surgery. Thank you and I hope this helps.
